Salmo Sunray

Salmo Sunray

Salmo Sunray is another version of the original Collie Dog, which was first created in the late 18th century. There have been many different versions of this particular fly pattern, some more successful than others. The Salmo Sunray has always been a very important pattern for me in my life as a salmon- and sea trout angler. It is likely the best fly you can use during the very early season, when the big silvers enter the river. It is a very efficient and exciting fly to fish. My version is made on a plastic tube that is mixed with a little bit of glitter. This is a fly that should be fished high in the water, especially in the early season, as it is the best fly to stop running fish, in my opinion.

The Salmo Sunray has also proven itself to be very effective for sea run brown trout on bigger rivers, such as the famous Rio Grande River in TDF. When cast across and stripped back fast, it can really make a sea run brown trout go crazy, especially in the middle to end season, when the fish are less responsive.

P.S.: All Fox DH flies are tied by a professional Danish fly tier and therefore maintains a standard of high quality, in both material and workmanship.
